How to play:
1 Shapes level 1 is the default starting level, however you can navigate to the "Levels" tab and activate the desired level by clicking in the radio button or checkbox.
2 For baby's around 2 years-old: This should be their introduction to shapes. They can complete the exercise with adult assistance.
3 For baby's around 3 years-old: Can complete with minimal assistance after directions are given.
4 Age between 4 and 5. Review for the basic shapes and introduction to the more unusual shapes like ovals and rectangles.
5 Choose a time of day when you and the child are relaxed. Provide rewards for tasks that have been mastered and change up the rewards when needed.
Shape recognition can actually be broken down into separate skills – matching, identifying, and naming.
When matching, a child can find the matching shape when shown an example.
For instance, point with your finger the proposed shape (light blue, black outline) and ask, “[Baby name], can you find another shape that looks just like this one? It's recommended that you touch the presented shapes (red, blue, green, yellow) the first few attempts to show the Baby what's the correct choice and most important, to allow the Baby to associate shapes and the sound of a correct answer. Then encourage him/her to do it by themselves.
This is the first step in shape recognition. The child perceives the differences between the shapes.
6 Identifying is the next step. Identifying focuses on the ability to point out a shape when named. So, again, point with your finger the proposed shape
and say: "[Baby name], can you show me a [shape]?" Provide assistance as necessary by touching the screen.
This is the second step in shape recognition and after a few attempts the Baby should be perfectly able to interact with the touch events for selecting a shape from the screen.
The final step is naming. In this step the child can name the shape when asked. In this stage the child may be asked. "[Child name], what shape is this blinking image?"
In this case the child must be able to name the shape presented to him/her.
7 Voice support. New Voice support! Now a female voice will play the shape, animal, letter, number or object. The functionality can be turned off by un checking the option in the settings area.
8 Drag and Drop. New drag and drop feature! Now kid can fine-tune its fine motor control by playing to match farm animals. Level 1 starts with a loose accuracy and as level goes up so does the required accuracy to position the shape in place.
The importance of shape recognition for kids.
Psychologists have determined that a child’s brain development is influenced significantly when a child acts on or manipulates the world around him or her. This app provide that key opportunity.
Hand-Eye Coordination.
When children tap, see, and listen the shape of the app, they are learning the connection between their hands and their eyes. The eyes see the shape, and the brain then envisions how the other shape needs to look like or what piece needs to be found and touched. Then the brain, eyes, and hands work together to find the piece, and do it accurately.
Fine Motor Skills.
Similar to the way hand-eye coordination is achieved, this app provide the opportunity for children to develop fine motor skills. Not to be confused with gross motor skills such as walking, fine motor skills require small, specialized movements that the app provide. Fine motor skills are necessary for handwriting and other important achievements.
Shape Recognition.
For young children – even babies – learning to recognize shapes is an important part of their development. This app can help little ones with this, since the pieces need to be recognized and touched to receive a reward, an applause in this case.
Problem Solving.
The skill of effective problem solving is a valuable and important one. As a child looks at various shapes and receives applause or not, he or she is developing this vital skill. This puzzle, after all, can’t be completed by cheating! It either looks-alike or it doesn’t. So puzzles teach children to use their own minds to figure out how to solve problems and think in a logical way.
Memory:
This app also help enhance a child’s memory. For example, a child will need to recall the size, color and shape of the pieces as he or she cycles through the puzzle. If a piece isn´t correct, the child will try again; but he or she will need to remember the last time that faced the same piece.
Spatial Perception
This is a very special Cognitive Skill. By turning on the "45° Blue Shape Rotation" or "blue shape animation" option the kid's brain will be trained to take snapshots of a moving object and manipulate it. Spatial Perception is the ability to sense and evaluate the size, shape, movement, and orientation of objects. The primary sense used to perceive spatial relationships is the sense of sight. Like other types of perception, spatial perception happens automatically in the brain. Input from the sensory organs and information about past experiences both have a role in determining how the brain maps the environment around it. Disorders with spatial perception commonly lead to conditions such as claustrophobia and acrophobia.
Elige un nivel primero en la pestaña "niveles" del menu.
Attempts and Hits.
What the "Attempts" field shows is the actual number of times the baby or child has touched a shape in the screen trying to make a good selection.
The "Hits" field shows you the number of times the baby/child has made a good selection.
Statistics
An upcoming version will show you here some statistics about how the game is being played. The total amount of attemps, the percentage of correct selections and the amount of correct attempts that were made using any of the assistance methods, so you can determine, for example, if your child started to make the good decisions when receiving visual help which in turn will tell you and the teacher he/she learns better with visual material/methods.
Version 2.2.3
This version adds more letters, both upper and lowercase. Even better features are already in the works, so please stay tuned and visit the Shape Match Facebook page to leave your comments and give us a "Like" please!. Blinking
This option blinks the correct shape for 8 seconds. The purpose is hint the baby to touch this very piece.
45° degree rotation
This option rotates the presented shape to match 45°. This forces the baby to rotate the shape mentally. What this does is increase the ability to manipulate object characteristics like size, shape and weight without the need of physically touching objects.
